Our Team

Yes, we have names...and faces, too!

While each member of the KO Crew comes from different backgrounds, one thing is shared by all: a passion for the water. Each of us has our own story to tell - from youth sailing circuits, collegiate dinghy sailing, paddling through the backwaters of Texas, to winning Olympic medals "back in the day!"

Stay tuned for more on the men and women of KO Sailing!

JOHN KOLIUS & STORMY

Thanks for visiting the KO Sailing website. I'm John Kolius and I started KO Sailing 15 years ago to support one design sailing along the Gulf Coast. I've been sailing since I was 5 years old and it has been a great ride. Thank goodness sailing is a lifetime sport because I have definitely been doing it for awhile.

I was born and raised in Houston and went to the University of Houston, I was majoring in sailboat practice for the Olympics most of the time. My professional sailing took me all over the world for the next 20 years and then I found myself back in Houston. Funny how that works out sometimes.

Our goal here at KO Sailing is to provide the right products at fair pricing and then make your time on the water the best it can be. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or one of the team if there is anything that KO Sailing can do to improve your Sailing or Kayaking experience.

Cheers,

John

Melissa Tatum

Hey, Im Melissa born and raised in Houston. I have been working for KO Sailing for about 4 years now. I only started sailing 3 months before working for KO. I sail in the Wednesday night races often on Clear Lake, sailed the Bank Regatta 2 years ago on a J22 with an all girl crew. I also sailed in the Turkey Day Regatta on a J92S with John Kolius.

The kids support for sailing is amazing around here. I love working with the parents and kids to make sure everything is perfect for there next race.  I'm always around if you need me and if you need the trailer at the next race let me know.

JAY BUSH

I was born in Houston but grew up all over the world and then came back to Houston to live on the water. I have been sailing for 15 years and working with KO Sailing for 5 years. I get to work with the coolest boats, latest gear and people that really know whats going on. I have many great stories of being on the water, a few years ago I was racing in the J22 North Americans in New Orleans, we port tacked the entire 60 boat fleet at the start only to end up in a hole when the wind shifted back. What a day.
